After spending a year or more to construct a new studio in Acuff, Texas with my friend and sound engineer Alan Crossland, the time finally came to go back in and try again with some new tunes, a fresh environment, a new Yamaha Concert Grand piano, and all the tools I needed plus one awesome musician…Brian McRae. So, with many of life’s lessons under my hat, years of listenin’ and learnin’, lots of humility and gratitude and a severe love for this music…I plunged back into the studio to document these songs. I’m very proud of how the record came out and feel it’s my strongest work to date. I hope ya’ll love hearin’ it as much as I loved makin’ it!!! Till next time… Doug Smith

Doug Smith’s 10th published piano project called “Confirmation” is AWESOME, and makes him the 1st artist to record and release a published musical work in the magnificent Spencer Theater in Ruidoso, New Mexico. The incredible piano is a 9′ Steinway Grand and is signed by the last living Steinway! In Smith’s own words, “This Piano and this theater are extraordinary! I feel very fortunate to document my music here during such an important time in my life and I am extremely thankful to A.N. and Jackie Spencer for their vision and continued support for me and many other artists, allowing us to succeed, achieve and ultimately share our dreams, visions, knowledge, spirits and celestial magic, through our art. I feel this theater is destined to become the Carnegie Hall of the Southwest, then a step beyond!” “All the ingredients are definitely present. This recording not only confirms my faith and music, but many other issues as well. I feel richly blessed with family and friends… and always music!” Which is exactly what “Confirmation” is all about… pure, simple, creative , emotional, original and powerful music, as only one man can deliver… for all people, who Love music!

There were over 700 people in the theatre that night, I had the finest 9′concert Steinway grand piano in front of me, Alan Crossland, my favorite sound engineer, who is brilliant with digital recordings and running the sound gear. When I stepped onto that stage that night, I knew something great was going to happen. I had prayed for a miracle and after being on stage for 2 1/2 hours, 13 songs later, Doug Smith “LIVE” was born. After several failed efforts in the past to record something live, I finally had it. Thirteen of my strongest melodies performed “LIVE”, recorded onto a digital format. Words cannot describe what that felt like, but I can tell you that I am eternally indebted to God for smiling so generously on me, all my life, but especially on that one particular night in the Allen Theatre at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, when I had a Steinway in front of me and beautiful people in the house, to witness. I am very humbly thankful! “LIVE” is the most exciting recording of my Life!”

1. Song for Suns

2. Stone Road

3. Rat House Blues

4. Linda

5. The Hartz Horizon

6. West Texas

7. Tumbleweed Rag

8. Strings

9. The Final Destination

10. Dreams Come True

11. Faith

12. Less Pomp, More Circumstance

In the fall of 1998 came 13 more authentic, beautifully melodic and powerful soul-sending originals! Doug Smith’s 8th compact disc is described as “Powerful”. From the heart-felt “Stone Road” and the title track “HOPE”, to the furiously fast “Tumbleweed Rag” and rock driven “Rat House Blues”, Smith’s energy is unmatched and his creativity soars on every track. The final song is an epic within itself. As described by Smith, “West Texas is the most memorable and most cherished of all the compositions I have created. That melody seems to empower me, because it involves heritage and emotions involved with this great place I call home!”

There is something for everyone who loves piano music on this one and Doug Smith is most definitely the “Piano Player”!

Doug Smith takes the listener through all sorts of musical genres, Jazz, classical, country, Rock and Ragtime and completes the journey with a soulful duet with pedal steel extraordinaire, Lloyd Maines. This project also includes the haunting “Ghost Windows” which Smith states is “the most original composition in my repertoire”.
